Finance Industry and the New Internal Audit Standards:
Organizational and Operational Practices
In the fast-changing financial services’ industry, the Internal Audit function benefits from a unique positioning and influence, historically built over the control history of any regulated entity.
Such function achieves higher quality by adhering to the Global Internal Audit Standards, organized in five distinct domains (Purpose of Internal Auditing, Ethics and Professionalism, Governing the Internal Audit Function, Managing the Internal Audit Function, Performing Internal Audit Services), which have been recently revisited to further adapt to the changing environment.
Published in January 2024, the updated Standards mark a significant evolution from the 2017 framework and move beyond reactive auditing, advocating for more predictive and adaptable methods that align with today's fast-paced, digitally-driven business landscape.
Effective as of January 2025, such Standards focus on 5 main developments:
· Advanced technology integration;
· Proactive risk management;
· Agility and adaptability;
· Sustainability and ESG focus; and,
· Strengthened governance oversight.
In this context, the main objective of this course is to navigate through these evolutions and transpose them into concrete organizational and operational practices in financial institutions.
